CHELCO seeks a Communications Specialist CHELCO, a progressive member-owned electric cooperative located in DeFuniak Springs, FL, is accepting applications for a Communications Specialist. The successful applicant assists with executing CHELCOs strategic communications and public relations program. Assists with communicating and informing members, employees, news media and the general public on the cooperatives positions, policies, and programs. Participates in community events and civic groups. CHELCO is a 57,000-meter co-op primarily serving two counties from Alabama to the Emerald Coast beaches on the Gulf of Mexico in the panhandle of Florida. The area offers outstanding recreational, cultural and educational opportunities.

Minimum Requirements: Associates degree in a related field and at least two years related experience; or a Bachelors degree in a related field and at least one year of related experience. Design certificate or at least two years of experience in design work (Adobe Creative Suite Software or equivalent) preferred. Must be able to serve in at least two community organizations within the service area each year. Cooperative Communicator Certification and valid drivers license preferred. The position requires excellent writing skills to produce the cooperatives member newsletter, e-newsletter and employee newsletter, plus supports the co-ops marketing and community outreach programs. The successful candidate is responsible for the CHELCO website and social media sites. The successful candidate maintains relationships with local media, civic and professional organizations, executes advertising contracts, provides exemplary customer service, and maintains good customer relations with external and internal stakeholders.

In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to work safely and maintain a safe work environment. Must be able to prioritize and complete tasks in order to deliver desired outcomes within allotted time frames. Writing samples and other communications work must be submitted prior to an interview. The work requires non-strenuous physical exertion such as periods of standing; walking over rough or difficult surfaces; recurring stooping, climbing or walking; recurring lifting of items weighing less than 25 pounds and may require occasional lifting of objects weighing in excess of 25 pounds. The position is non-exempt with normal office hours Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with evenings and weekends as needed. Travel within the cooperative territory and occasional travel outside of the area required. The position reports to the Communications & Community Affairs Supervisor.
