GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The ABE/HiSET Instructor will provide student-centered ABE/HiSET instruction focusing on Reading, English, Writing, and Social Studies while integrating college and career exploration. This instructor teaches approximately 20 hours per week with an additional ten (10) hours of classroom prep. In addition to teaching, this instructor will develop level appropriate curriculum for Reading, English, Writing, and Social Studies following the format required by DESE, using College and Career Readiness Standards in thematic units, attend meetings, conduct student assessments, and other duties as required.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides high quality ABE instruction primarily in Reading, Language Arts, Writing, and Social Studies as related to student preparation for the HiSET attainment and college/career readiness. Instruction will include a variety of instructional methods and techniques including but not limited to whole book reading, project based learning, research, digital literacy and college/career readiness.
Works closely with the SALC staff to provide a classroom environment conducive to academic learning, creating an environment that increases student retention and the advancement of skills and knowledge leading to students' goal attainment.
Works closely with SALC staff to develop and analyze formal and informal assessments providing data that drives College Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRSAE) based instruction in reading, language arts, writing, and social studies classes.
Assesses HiSET prep students in reading, writing, and language, as well as assisting with other assessments as required by DESE or program needs.
Prepares lesson plans and class instruction in alignment with the MA College and Career Readiness Standards integrating Reading, Language Arts, Writing, and Social Studies in addition to providing career exploration.
Understands, applies, develops, and aligns curriculum, instruction, and assessments that demonstrate the connection between knowledge and skills students at each level are expected to learn, the learning standards they are expected to meet, the units and lessons that will be taught at each level, the assignments and projects given to students, the resources used, and the methods to evaluate the student learning.
Participates in program planning and program continuous improvement.

Master's degree in Education, Psychology, or closely related field; with one (1) year experience and/or training that includes adult basic education instruction, curriculum/workshop design, and public relations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience teaching English and/or Social Studies courses preferred
Two (2) years experience providing classroom instruction to a diverse and disadvantaged population preferred
Proficient in Word, Excel, Google Classroom, Google Documents and Sheets.
Strong written and interpersonal communication and technology skills; excellent organizational skills; strong leadership skills;
Must be committed to professional, program development, learner-centered teaching.
Experience in Adult Education, curriculum development, preferred
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Duties normally performed in a classroom,lab and/or office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to remain stationary and move about inside an office, classroom or lab. Must be able to operate or use computer, office machinery, copier, calculator etc. This person frequently communicates with students, faculty and staff. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
