Our team is seeking an innovative Researcher or Audio Engineer with a passion and fundamental background in spatial audio technologies. In this role you have an interest and experience in developing real-time systems for next generation hardware and software products. You will get to work closely with the acoustic design, audio software, product design, and other teams to guide the future of Apple's audio technology and experience across our products. You will join a dynamic audio experience and software prototyping group that is charged with researching, designing, and developing next- generation audio technology.

  • Perform independent research and development of emerging and future audio technologies.
  • Develop and implement next-generation iOS/macOS audio engines and tools for use in prototyping and future products (C++, Objective-C, Swift).

    Key Qualifications

    • You have a deep understanding of human perception of spatial sound, and spatial audio rendering technologies (Binaural, Ambisonics, etc.)
    • Thorough experience with real-time interactive spatial audio environments (audio engines, middleware spatializers, Unity/Unreal)
    • You have 3-5 years of professional experience in developing and shipping spatial audio or acoustics simulation products
    • Strong understanding and experience with digital audio signal processing
    • Practical knowledge of acoustics simulation algorithms and geometrical operations
    • Experience with C++ multi-threading real-time environments
    • Excellent C/C++ coding skills and MATLAB skills
    • Experience with complex algorithms on ARM/SoC/mobile platforms
    • Knowledge of advanced audio production tools and workflows (AudioUnits, DAWs)
    • Profiling and optimizing high-performance parallel code
    • Experience with audio DSP programming
    • Experience with room acoustics measurements and simulations
    • Swift / Objective-C
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills


    Our Technology Development Group is a special projects group within Apple charged with research and development of new product categories and core technologies.

    Education & Experience

    M.S., PhD - Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
