As part of the Battery Engineering group, we are looking for a Cell Engineer who will be creating battery solutions that deliver more energy and power in limited spaces. You will help us innovate new battery technologies from chemistries: Cathode, anode, separator, and electrolyte to final cells. You will be responsible for cell design and supporting battery material development with deep cell electrode/cell design expertise. This role involves working closely with internal cross-functional teams, internal cell team, external vendors and materials vendors. By collaborating with product development team, you will chip in to the improvement of product experience for our customer. This person will be a technical leader focusing on developing and qualifying advanced cell designs for new product considerations, develop test methodology for new products, work to define cell designs that meet internal customer requirements. In addition, you will do failure analysis and root cause investigations for the corrective actions.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience on battery material and design development including tracking process and cell performance / safety characteristics for lithium ion or polymer cells
  • Must have hands on experiences in test equipment, test script and test procedures
  • Familiar with current production processes applicable to pouch cells
  • Experience with applying quality tools including statistical analysis of performance results, process capabilities, and design of experiments
  • Experience with mathematical modeling of lithium ion battery designs is a plus
  • Familiar with applicable patent field and patent application process
  • Strong verbal and written communication and collaboration skills
  • Attention to details, ability to work well individually and in team settings

Description

  • Leads engineering qualification efforts for new lithium cell designs from materials, cell design to completion of cell products
  • Using quality tools, analyze process capabilities, summarizes data and resolves acceptability for products developments.
  • Searches literatures or industries for advanced technology and investigates whether it can be applicable to new cell design and evaluate efficacy and readiness
  • Pursues development of intellectual property to protect technology developments and secure technical edge
  • Work closely with materials engineers to implement new technology on the materials to the optimized cell design
  • Work with operation teams on root cause analysis and corrective actions (FACA) as required and IQC/OQC and vendor quality control
  • Prepare project updates and goals, related status reports for problems or issues and makes recommendations as required through investigations with team

    Education & Experience

    MS or PhD degree in electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemistry/Chemical Engineering, or related field
