Apple's Synthetic Data Group is looking for a world-class Character Supervisor to be responsible for building our next generation 3D character simulation system. The ideal Character Supervisor flourishes with undefined challenges in an evolving domain and plays a critical role in cross-department collaborations. You will supervise developing and integrating 3D character content for multiple projects at varying stages of production, ranging from rapid prototyping, developing high-end visual concepts, delivering performant and scalable production assets, and polishing and optimizing assets for shipping. This role requires a keen understanding of the state of the art in offline and real-time graphics and an ambition to produce visually stunning 3D content while navigating through unique technical challenges. You will be responsible for supporting a multi-discipline content team by establishing lean production pipeline and crafting guidelines. To succeed within this role, you should have shown experience in several of the following areas:

Key Qualifications

  • 7+ years supervising high end character development teams for film or games
  • Manages character development on schedule and on budget, balancing artistic and productivity requirements, in tandem with production
  • Actively participates in the recruiting and staffing of the character department
  • Manages teams' overall professional development, providing performance feedback, mentoring, resolving performance management issues and maintaining positive morale
  • Experience developing assets and look development with character art team
  • Setup and maintain character rigs, facial rigs, and animation pipelines
  • Experience developing Skin, Muscle, Hair, and Cloth systems
  • Expert level working in Maya, Python, and Mel scripting
  • Experience with C++, Java, PyQt, Open CV, Object-Oriented Design, Common algorithms and data structures, JSON , XML, Distributed OS, Xcode, visual studio
  • Ability to collaborate with artists, engineers, and vendors to develop key technologies
  • Thrives on learning new technologies & toolsets in the service of visually accurate content
  • Experience in a fast paced, cross functional software environments


The individual should have deep knowledge in all aspects of character development, materials & shaders, rigging, animation, motion capture data, tools, and pipelines for offline and real-time environments, synthetic data, procedural systems, machine learning, and outsourcing content. The ideal candidate enjoys pushing boundaries of hardware and software in a fast-paced research and development environment. Your work will bring tremendous impact to the overall data design and in getting functional products to millions of customers.

Education & Experience

BA in Digital Media / BS in Computer Science / Equivalent industry experience
