Apple's Synthetic Data Group is seeking a Character Synthetic Data Engineer who is exceptionally artistic and technical to join a team of industry-leading developers in their pursuit of high quality procedural content for offline and real time environments. Design assets and workflows conducive to character generation and procedural systems while working closely with a small team in a collaborative nature. Be forward-thinking in a fast paced, start-up environment with a drive to define the rules that will enable a team to scale productively and efficiently. The individual should be able to collaborate with multi-functional teams (engineering, technical artists, production, and outsourcing) to plan and develop synthetic data to build software solutions for Apple's next generation products. To succeed within this role, you should have shown experience in several of the following areas:

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years of developing high end characters in Maya for films, games, or VFX
  • Proficiency in multiple content applications like Substance, Houdini or others
  • General knowledge of off-line rendering pipelines (V-Ray), and real-time engines
  • Experience working with character generators and procedural systems
  • Modeling animatable characters with clothing, hair, muscles, and customization pipelines
  • Experience with character rigs, facial rigs, skinning, and blendshape deformation rigs
  • Proficient in animation clean up, ingesting, and applying motion capture animation
  • Experience developing Skin, Muscle, Hair, Cloth systems
  • Shader development, PBR texture/material workflows, lighting and material calibration
  • 5+ years Python, 3+ years C/C++, and comfortable operating in a Linux environment
  • Exceptional artistic and technical skills
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and motion

Description

Demonstrate your deep experience in all aspects of character development, materials & shaders, rigging, animation, motion capture data, tools, and pipelines for offline and real-time environments. You will work in a multi-functional team to provide synthetic data to develop innovative computer vision and machine learning algorithms.

Education & Experience

BA in Digital Media / BS in Computer Science / Equivalent industry experience

Additional Requirements

  • Digital doubles in a production environment
  • Developing synthetic data content for machine learning, and computer vision
  • Experience in automated and manual asset conversion (mesh, materials, animation)
  • Self managed, self motivated, and able to learn new pipeline and procedures
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Exposure to Agile development methodologies
  • External development team experience
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, etc)
  • Knowledge of OpenMaya frameworks
  • Familiarity with Xgen
