Assistant Director, Risk and Compliance



West Texas A&M University is taking applications for a Assistant Director, Risk and Compliance.

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Research and

Compliance, this position manages the day-to-day operation of the Office of Academic and Research Environmental Health and Safety. Position may require work beyond normal office hours and work on weekends.





o Assists AR-EHS Director in the assignment of daily operational objectives for AR-EHS staff;

o Provides input to AR-EHS Director and assists in the design and

implementation of assigned compliance programs;

o Working within the established chain of command, collaborates with

departments and divisions to identify and resolve risk management and compliance issues;

o Addresses potentially serious risk management and compliance issues and communicates with AR-EHS Director for corrective timelines and


o When delegated, serve as a liaison to the System Offices regarding

System polices, regulations, and member rules and procedures;

o Assists AR-EHS Director in the development, initiation, maintenance, and revision of rules and procedures and related activities to prevent illegal,

unethical, or improper conduct through the Compliance Program;

o Coordinates periodic compliance risk assessments and provides comment for updates the University’s Program accordingly;

o Serves as subject matter expert on laboratory biosafety, conducts biosafety inspections and serves in an advisory role to the Institutional Biosafety Committee;

o Monitors the effectiveness of training, updates training, and verifies

adequate training assignments based on WTAMU and System Offices guidance;

o Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses;

o Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:

o Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;

o Six years with research laboratory experience;

o Knowledge of work processing, spreadsheet, and database applications;

o Knowledge of laboratory safety and biosafety;

o Excellent communication skills, both orally and written and be able to create professional, high level written documents.

Preferred Qualifications:

o Master’s degree preferred. Preferred academic areas for bachelor and masters related to: Environmental Health, Chemistry, Biology, laboratory science area;

o Ten years with laboratory experience;

o Knowledge of compliance practices.


Starting Salary of $5,384.28 monthly, based on experience
