Weekly Hours: 40

Role Number: 200199299

Build and Release project managers in the Developer Tools team are responsible for coordinating and planning our daily builds of Xcode and Swift Playgrounds. The Developer Tools project management team seeks an experienced or aspiring project manager to work with our teams and across the entire software engineering organization to deliver first-class products to macOS, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS developers inside and outside of Apple. As a build and release project manager, you're responsible for overseeing the integration, building, and qualification for Xcode and Swift Playgrounds. You will develop bug management processes in partnership with our managers, communicate branching schedules and deadlines for our team and our partners, and coordinate internal and production releases of Apple's tools software for millions of Apple developers. We're looking for someone who enjoys working as a central point of contact and can solve problems with nimble planning and a healthy dose of thinking on your feet.

Key Qualifications

  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to devise and organize plans
  • Concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfort with the UNIX shell and ability to automate tasks using a scripting language such as Swift, Python, AppleScript, or Perl
  • Ability to work in a highly cross-functional capacity

Description

As a build and release project manager, your responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating within our team and with our partners to release high-quality tools on time
  • Understanding and driving our integration and build processes, from bootstrapping to seeds to customer ship
  • Tracking and prioritizing tasks across multiple product releases and efforts simultaneously
  • Driving resolutions on build issues with engineering teams
  • Providing daily prioritized information to the build and integration team on upcoming releases
  • Communicating effectively at all levels, from informal drop-ins to formal announcements, often being the face of developer tools inside Apple
  • Releasing software to developers through the Apple Developer beta program and the App Store

    Education & Experience

    Additional Requirements

    • If possible, provide a portfolio of your work. We love seeing what you've created, software or otherwise. Experience in the following areas are nice to have, but not required:
    • Developing with or understanding of Apple's OS technologies
    • Software or hardware release experience, managing complex, cross-functional projects
    • Developing and releasing a consumer or enterprise product
    • Usage of source control systems such as git
    • A power user of Slack who looks for ways to optimize workflows and streamline communication
