Apple's Sensing Hardware engineering team is looking for passionate, self-motivated, electro-mechanical Lab Manager. As part of the Lab Management team you will be directly responsible for supporting the hardware engineering team along with the care and upkeep of multiple engineering lab spaces. Your responsibilities will include equipment purchase, organization, maintenance, calibration, and support. You will help train engineers on specialized equipment usage, lab practices, and safe working practices within the lab environment. Other areas of responsibility include Mac/PC host management, basic test fixture fabrication, and leading the continued organization, cleanliness, and industrial health and safety compliance of lab spaces. You will also coordinate project work with internal and external facilities and equipment vendors, author laboratory documentation, and clearly and concisely communicate updates to the larger team. Key Qualifications
- Prior Lab Manager or Technician experience
- Proven track record of lab setup, organization, management, and continuous improvement
- Familiarity with health and safety risk assessments, safety protocol enforcement (experience with chemical usage is a plus)
- Solid understanding of MacOS and Windows, general test equipment software, and TCP/IP networking
- Hands on experience with mechanical/environmental test equipment (temp/RH chambers, pressure chambers, Instron (load frames), shakers, small industrial robots/actuators etc.)
- Hands on experience with basic electrical test tools (power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, DAQs, function generators, etc.)
- Hands on experience with basic fabrication tools (hand tools, drill press, band saw, mill, laser cutter, 3D printers, etc); designing, assembling, and documenting basic test fixtures
- Hands on experience with sensors and metrology equipment (accelerometers, gyroscopes, pressure sensors, thermocouples, microscopes, LDVs, etc.)
- Experience with industrial facilities (3 phase power, CDA, PCW, Vacuum, etc), and experience with equipment troubleshooting
- Experience with Apple product or other consumer electronics disassembly / repair is a plus
- Scripting skills (Python preferred) are a plus
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a very busy environment
- Effective written and interpersonal communication skills, proven ability to work cross-functionally, harness the power of teamwork, and relate to technical partners.
Description
Maintain and control access to lab spaces; own lab scheduling, space allocation, security compliance, facilities activities and general operations Define, document, and enforce lab policies and guidelines Work with the Environmental Health and Safety team to ensure compliance and adherence to relevant safety protocols Keep lab spaces clean and organized; improve lab space efficiency through continuous organizational and procedural/process improvements Procurement, inventory, maintenance, and calibration of all laboratory equipment, tools, and supplies Engineering test setup, execution, data collection, and documentation Mac and PC hardware and software setup as related to lab equipment and testing Basic mechanical prototype assembly, debug, and modification
Education & Experience
3-5 years of relevant experience is required. The ideal candidate will have a technical Bachelors degree or its equivalent in technical or vocation training. Equivalent experience in lieu of education will be considered (minimum 8-10 years)
