Business & Food/Dining Reporter
The Fayetteville Observer/fayobserver.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a reporter to cover business and food/dining.
This reporter will research, write and report compelling stories that inform and engage readers. Key topics and coverage areas include business openings and closings, dining trendsand economic development.
The reporter acts as a public ambassador through community outreach and connects with readers through social media. The reporter works with the content coach and content strategists to shape storytelling to meet audience needs and interests.
The Observer, North Carolinas oldest daily newspaper, is based in Fayetteville, which has experienced tremendous growth and development in recent years. It is home to Fort Bragg, one of the largest military installations in the world. The Observer predominantly serves readers in Cumberland County.
Responsibilities:

Creates content (articles, videos, photos and social media posts) about local news that accurately informs, entertains and engages key audiences and platforms through the use of metrics.

Works toward becoming the communitys leading voice in area of expertise.

Plans and executes engagement opportunities to reach audiences through content, community events and social media.

Connects with the community through outreach (social media, on camera, forums, community leadership, etc.).

Works with coach and content strategist to evaluate what's working and what's not, and develops ongoing plans to better satisfy audience needs.

Collaborates with content team to provide all appropriate elements for stories (i.e.photos, videos and graphics).

Produces photos and video as needed.

Promotes personal brand, the brands of colleagues and the institutional brand.

Provides great customer service, helping readers find answers and solutions.
Requirements:
-
Bachelor's in communications, journalism or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-
Two years reporting experience, which could include freelancing, internships and college publication work.

Strong command of AP grammar and style.
-
Strong copy-editing skills and the ability to produce content that is clean, accurate and "publication ready."

Is passionate and enthusiastic about news and content that will work well with audiences on social platforms.

Is comfortable using social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat to enhance reporting and promote stories.

Understands reporting ethics and sourcing.
-
Excels in a fast-paced news environment and understands the digital first mission.

Works weekends and nights as needed.

Collaborates well with others and can work with a team on the biggest stories.

This role requires a valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
