Director, Digital Distribution and Partner Management

USA TODAY NETWORK/Gannett is seeking a Director of Digital Distribution and Partner Management to report to the Vice President of Digital Distribution, who will primarily be responsible for executing strategic deals and managing partnerships with content platforms and services. The Director will seek new opportunities, negotiate contracts, and serve as the primary point-person for relationships between USA TODAY/Gannett and partners such as OTT streaming services, device manufacturers, emerging social platforms, and more.

Over the last 5 years, Gannett has made significant inroads establishing digital distribution partnerships with key content portals, streaming and social platforms. We also program and operate two, 24-hour streaming channels, USA TODAY News and USA TODAY Sportswire, which available on leading OTT streaming services such as Roku Channel and Samsung TV Plus. Our Humankind brand is one of the most successful short form video brands with over 4 billion video views in 2019. We are also one of the largest news and sports syndicators through our USA TODAY and sports enthusiast brands.

The Director will oversee accounts and new prospects, deal valuation processes, negotiations and closings. They will work with internal stakeholders to evaIuate and gain concensus around new opportunities. In addition, this person will be an expert on the OTT and video streaming landscape, have strong contacts and relationships in the space, and proven negotiating experience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Vice President and Digital Distribution team on the overall distribution strategy and budget

  • Oversee exisiting OTT partnerships, manage deal renewals, and serve as a day-to-day contact for partners

  • Evaluate new opportunities to distribution USA TODAY/Gannetts content to 3rd party digital platforms, with a specific focus on connected devices and mobile as well as other platforms and devices

  • Collaborate with Video and Newsroom teams, Marketing, and Ad Sales teams to craft pitch materials, build content packages, and overall brand offerings

  • Partner with Vice President, Finance, and Business Intelligence teams to model, forecast, and evaluate new partnerships

  • Work closely with Business Development and Legal teams to negotiate deal terms and gain internal stakeholder approvals

  • Provide regular analysis and insights to the Vice President in order to support business decisions

  • Work with the Manager of Digital Distribution on partner marketing and promotional initiatives to drive awareness, acquisition, and engagement

  • Work with international counterparts to execute deals in foreign markets

  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of competitive marketplace and provide team with regular briefings

Requirements:

  • 5-8 years in a digital partnerships and business development role at a media brand, or a content acquisitions role at a major streaming platform or service

  • Comprehensive understanding of the mulitplatform digital content landscape (AVOD, SVOD, OTT, EST, Social, etc.)

  • Experience working with multiple departments and stakeholders

  • Experience compiling and benchmarking data from multiple third-party sources

  • Experience supporting partner-facing executives

  • Strategic thinker, self-starter, and creative problem solver

  • Proven relationship-builder and collaborator

  • Willingness to travel at least one week per month once normal business travel resumes

  • Superior Excel skills

  • Excellent communicator in written and verbal form

  • Extremely versatile, dedicated to efficient productivity
