Under the direct supervision of the Dock Manager/Leads,the Dock Helper loads trucks with products for delivery to newspaper contractors for final delivery; accurately counts products for contracted independent newspaper carriers picking up their products at the dock; coordinates the arrival of trucks with the delivery of bundles from P&A; communicates with P&A on the delivery order required and condition of bundles; communicates with the Dock Manager/Leadson changes made in loading orders, the condition of bundles and loading equipment; monitors loading times; and reports to the Dock Manager/Leads any accidents or unusual events that happen during the work shift.
Responsibilities:

Coordinates truck loading with the Packaging and Assembly Department ("P&A");

Coordinates material handling of publications printed and/or delivered by Gannett;

Reports to the Circulation Dock Managerall significant events pertaining to the loading and transportation of the newspaper and helps with the loading and transportation as needed or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Education:
- operating personal computers and programs.
- communicating directions to several persons in a short period of time without becoming confused.
communicating problems clearly and accurately;
handling rapidly changing situations while maintaining control.
lift bundles of newspapers weighing up to 35 pounds to a height up to 3 feet and move them a distance of up to 20 feet;
- explain and execute truck loading procedures and supervisory methods requiring independent judgment and initiative;
move rapidly in a congested area and in an outdoor environment;
- accurately count products;
- work with limited supervision;
- maintain harmonious and cooperative relationships with fellow employees and contractors;
safely operate a motor vehicle.

Graduation from a senior high school; previous delivery and/or public contact experience; any satisfactory combination of experience and training. Familiarity with proper dock loading and unloading procedures of light trucks.
