TheCourier Journal, part of the USA Today Network, is seeking a talented, take-charge reporter to join its breaking news team in Louisville, Kentucky. This reporter will go beyond crime and mayhem to make sure were engaged in the conversation about the days hottest topics. This reporter must be social media savvy, have solid news judgment and the ability to think quickly and respond appropriately in high-pressure situations. The reporter also must produce compelling journalism that builds audience and connects with readers through multiple platforms, including social media and video. Our ideal candidate can juggle and prioritize multiple stories and cover local news with accuracy and a sense of urgency.
The Courier Journal has won 11 Pulitzer Prizes, most recently in 2020 for breaking news. Louisville is Kentuckys largest city and is the birthplace of Muhammad Ali and home to the Kentucky Derby. The area also has a vibrant food and dining scene, historic parks and a rich but affordable quality of life.
At least one year of reporting and writing experience
Strong social media skills
Must be able to work well on deadline and as part of a team
Ability to write accurately and detailed
Excellent communication and time-management skills
Command of media law and principles of ethical conduct
Ability to shoot basic-level photos and videos (primarily iPhone), or the ability to learn quickly
