The machine repair / Machinist is a key position in an operation that produces 6 newspapers and numerous weekly products. The volumes make this one of the busiest and biggest operations in Gannett. Having a Machine Repair / Machinist who oversees this operation is critical to the timely and efficient processing of newspapers. Without a replacement Machine Repair / Machinist in this key department, goals will be missed, preventative and demand maintenance would slow down dramatically leaving us very short-staffed.
To maintain all press and peripheral equipment in optimum working condition.
Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment relating to or impacting press performance, quality, or cost effectiveness.
Troubleshoots and repairs defective or mal-functioning press or press related equipment.
Researches and orders parts needed to implement repairs and maintenance.
Maintains maintenance logs and records.
High School diploma; 3 to 5 years mechanical experience is highly preferred.
Technical Skill Sets:
Light computer ability for record keeping, strong mechanical knowledge.
Ability to communicate well with vendors, ability to prioritize work. Complete and demonstrated understanding of OSHA Hazardous Chemical Communication and Lock-Tagout standards.
Must be able to troubleshoot problems and find a way to solve them in a timely manner.
Must be able to communicate with outside vendors as well as other technicians and production employees. Must be able to work in confined areas, on forklifts and clamp trucks, on the press superstructure, or in the reel room.
The workplace is noisy. This position mandates shift work with occasional overtime necessary to complete tasks. Weekend and holiday schedules may be necessary due to workloads.
