Regional editor Sunbelt

The USA TODAY Network, comprised of more than 260 publications across the country, is seeking a regional editor to oversee the Sunbelt, which includes Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado. This senior level position (vice president) also will directly supervise a newsroom within the region, which includes such stories titles as the Oklahoman, the Austin American-Statesman and the El Paso Times.

The regional editor sets strategy for the region, including coverage priorities, tactics for audience/subscription growth, the structure of the local newsroom and region as a whole, and manages the budget for the region. Coverage opportunities in the Sunbelt include such critical topics as immigration, environment, changing demographics and politics. Audience expansion and aggressive digital subscription growth will be key to the success of the region. In addition, goals also will include diversification of both coverage and the staff.

The ideal candidate will be a transformational leader someone passionate about watchdog and enterprise reporting who also possesses a deep knowledge of audience and what it takes to turn a casual reader into a loyal subscriber. We want someone who challenges the status quo, builds teams and innovates.

This position is one of 12 regional editors for the USA TODAY Network a team that oversees the local news division and works in concert on larger initiatives and priorities. The Sunbelt regional editor will report to the senior vice president for local news and audience development.
