The City of Dubuque invites applications for the position of Assistant Housing & Community Development Director: Building Code Official. The successful candidate will inspect structures using engineering skills to determine structural soundness and compliance with specifications, building codes, and other regulations. Inspections may be general in nature or may be limited to a specific area, such as electrical systems or plumbing. The Building Code Enforcement Official is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing operations including administration of building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, property maintenance, and similar codes and inspection programs.
Required qualifications: 5 years or more work experience including supervisory responsibility; 1 to 12 months on-the-job training; Building/Construction Inspection/Inspector certification; or equivalent experience and training to meet the required qualifications. EPA Lead Certification for Contractors within one year of the date of hire and possession of a valid and active certification as a Building Code Official within one year of date of hire issued by the International Code Council.
Desired qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Construction Science, Construction Administration, engineering, architecture or related field; ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in building inspection, code enforcement, plan review and/or construction experience; five (5) years of supervisory responsibility. The successful candidate will possess the ability to follow a management philosophy that is input oriented and values equity, problem solving and the development of partnerships; and the desire to be part of an organization that values service, people, integrity, responsibility, innovation and teamwork.
The City offers an annual salary range of $73,860 to $96,574, and an attractive benefits package which includes twelve weeks of paid parental leave.
