Job Description

Position Summary:

The Project Engineer - Software position in Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc. is the technical liaison to Rockwell Automation partners and other 3rd parties for the licensing activities and related support of current and future Rockwell Automation software technologies.

You will also design and develop new software products and features, focusing on the integration of 3rd party products and applications into the Connected Enterprise.  You will gain vast knowledge of the Rockwell Automation industrial automation software and other computing technologies.

While you will be a part of a small dynamic team, we are looking for a creative and technically skilled candidate who also enjoys working independently.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide technical support for Rockwell Automation licensed software technologies to 3rd party product developers.
  • Following the procedures to safeguard Rockwell Automation confidential information, gather technical information from existing documents or other sources to prepare, distribute, and maintain professional looking documents (e.g., application notes, porting guides, tools etc.) that contain appropriate levels of technical information in a format that is usable by technology licensees.
  • Assist with the development of plans, material, and delivery for training licensees on the design requirements and use of licensed software technologies.
  • Develop test beds to help assure interoperability of 3rd party licensed products with Rockwell Automation products, as appropriate for members of the Technology Partner Program.
  • Develop and document code according to the development processes that satisfies the software design.  Report, analyze, debug, and correct anomalies. Integrate with other components and solve problems across subsystems and products to produce a final product. Responsibilities may extend to the technical management of the design, testing and integration of other engineers' work in related areas.
  • Provide work estimates and status reports as requested. Maintain adequate interaction to ensure assigned tasks are prioritized appropriately.
  • Provide input to marketing/business planning, including definition of deliverables required to sell and deliver licensed software technologies in the most usable fashion. Provide feedback to Rockwell Automation product groups regarding product directions and attributes required by technology users. Provide feedback to engineering on all aspects of licensed technologies, including development kits, systems issues, etc.
  • Work with other team members to accomplish departmental goals.
  • Keep informed of new developments in the software engineering and computer engineering fields and disseminate through the organization.  Identify and participate in technical and developmental training opportunities.
  • Contribute to software development capability improvements in the areas of software development practices and development tools.
  • Clearly communicate and convey design concepts, both verbally and written.  Able to learn and understand complex control system concepts.
  • Effectively team with others through mutually supportive professional relationships, open and direct communications, honesty, and respect.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Typically requires 8 years of experience in a software product development environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of engineering tools necessary for successful performance of the essential functions of this job description
  • Working knowledge of C++, C#, Python, Javascript, TypeScript or other relevant programming languages
  • Knowledge of modern web/mobility technologies, platforms, tools, and libraries
  • Knowledge of multithreading, concurrent system, real-time systems, industrial automation, and simulation systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of Rockwell Automation Logix platform and Studio 5000 Software
  • Experience with Common Industrial Protocol (CIP)
  • Direct experience with the Industrial Automation industry.
  • Experience in both local and global technical development team environments.
