Public Health Technician

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The purpose of this position is to assist with daily operation of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and the Health Department. This includes office operations and caseload management of the WIC Program, obtaining anthropometric data and lab samples, office operations of the Health Department, and providing support to residents of Trempealeau County for all Health Department programs, including interpreting for Spanish speaking residents. The work is performed under the supervision of the Public Health Nutrition Coordinator and the Director/Health Officer.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Fluency in Spanish, ability to work with people of all ages from various ethnic backgrounds. Minimum 2 years of experience interpreting for the Hispanic population in a healthcare setting or equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Working knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel preferred. Competency in Microsoft Word required. Certified medical interpreter or completed certified medical interpreter course within 6 months of hire required. National Child Passenger Safety Certification within one year of employment. ICS 100 and 200 certification within one year of hire. Successful completion of blood borne pathogen course required upon hire. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license and available means of transportation required.

COMPENSATION / BENEFITS: The 2021 hourly wage for this full-time, non-exempt position is $15.78 per hour to $21.54 per hour (Step 20). The expected starting hourly wage is $15.78 per hour to $17.94 per hour (Step 4), depending upon qualifications. Trempealeau County’s compensation plan considers annual wage step increases. A comprehensive benefit package is offered to county employees including health insurance, flex spending account, dependent care reimbursement, pension plan, deferred compensation, dental, vision, short-term disability, life insurance, critical illness insurance, cancer insurance, accident insurance and paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
