Works with Human Resources and Management to identify training requirements and institutes plans for training new and existing employees.
Position Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
Salary: $23.71/hour to Commensurate
Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, physical examination (if applicable) and drug screen are required prior to employment with the City of Cedar Rapids.
Examples of Essential Duties:
- Lead the planning, creation, and implementation of annual training plans
- Create training schedules for all City departments, track and create reports on outcomes of all training and maintain training records
- Prepare and maintain training materials across a variety of platforms
- Markets training sessions to employees
- Coordinate logistics and facilitate classroom & online training sessions for new and existing employees
- Recruit and train new trainers, delegate training tasks to the new trainers and evaluate performance
- Observes and evaluates the results of courses to improve the effectiveness of the programs.
- Actively seek current training methods and best practices to facilitate training employees; remain up-to-date on developments within the public sector
- Coordinate new hire orientation
- Support other areas of Human Resources, as needed
- Performs related work as required
Required Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in learning and development, human resources, education or related field and
- One to three years of experience coordinating training or related work or
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
Required Licenses or Certifications

- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in learning and development, human resources, education or related field
- Experience working in a union environment
