Job Description
Project Engineer
As a Project Engineer (Lead), you will lead the design, implementation, test and customer-site startup of complex control, information, and automation systems working in a project team environment. Project work will be centered around power generation, balance of plant, and electrical distribution. Principal duties and responsibilities:
Overview
- Broad experience with direct customer contact on a technical basis is required.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged.
- Must have excellent conflict resolution skills.
- Must be available and willing to work overtime, Saturdays to meet customer project commitments.
- Must perform duties in the office or outside the office as part of a project team.
- Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial plants, ships, etc., which may require climbing, working in confined spaces and other unusual work environments.
- Demonstrates a proactive commitment to safety of their self and others by taking the time to understand risks and completing all required safety training.
- Proficient experience in implementing control methodology in DCS, PLC, and information system platforms with a high level of understanding of various programming.
- Will optimize design and implement knowledge of control system architecture including hardware, software, instrumentation, and networking equipment.
- Will develop control philosophies and write functional requirement specifications based on customer provided specifications.
Functional
- May participate in development of business team strategic plan.
- Technically leads the design, implementation, test, and start-up phases of complex systems projects.
- May identify technologies to be used in standard offerings, new applications and extensions of current architectures or software packages.
- Works with the Project Manager to plan and schedule project activities.
- May participate in detailed system implementation and start-up.
Leadership
- Frequently leads requirements definition, system conceptualization and design efforts for complex system projects.
- Leads technical efforts of a multiple person engineering team on complex projects.
- Leads contractors on project assignments.
- Coaches and mentors less-experienced engineers assigned to projects.
- Leverages and shares specialized application knowledge or specialized technology knowledge within Rockwell.
- May lead internal engineering improvement efforts.
Interpersonal
- Frequently serves as the lead engineering interface with customer for assigned projects.
- Supports an environment conducive to successful team interaction.
Business
- Responsible for the technical success of complex projects
- Responsible for meeting project schedule, budgeted hours, and customer satisfaction targets.
- Must be commercially aware of the impact to the business of selecting and developing the project design and implementation.
- Builds partnerships at a technical level of key customers.
- May conceptualize the technical solution and provide engineering hours estimates for sales proposals.
- May present and develop technical aspects of sales proposals to customers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical/Computer, Mechanical preferred)

Desired Qualifications:
- Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial plants, ships, etc., which may require climbing, working in confined spaces and other unusual work environments.
- Eight years or more experience in an Industrial Controls Engineering environment
- Experience with industrial communications networks, such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, ControlNet, DNP3.0. and/or IEC61850.
- Experience with Generators, Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, Diesel Generators, Breaker control, chillers, VFD pumps and associated controls
- Experience with Rockwell Automation Products hardware and software product suites (ControlLogix, Logix 5000, FT View, FT Historian and FT VantagePoint.) experience.
- Experience with object oriented based control system design methods.
- Control System Architecture Design (Client/Server); including Virtual Client Server design experience preferred.
Minimum travel required up to 25%.
