MEDIA SPECIALIST BILINGUAL
(Spanish/English)

$7,468 - $9,032 / Month
plus 5% differential for Bilingual skills

The County Administrator's Office (CAO) is responsible for preparing the County budget, providing the Board of Supervisors with the information they need for making decisions, representing the County in intergovernmental relationships, coordinating the work of all County departments, and ensuring they provide timely, accurate and coordinated information to the public. Our staff also helps coordinate planning for County facilities, risk management, and leads racial equity initiatives. The CAO Communications Team is a small but dynamic team that currently consists of a Media Manager and a Media Specialist.

The current vacancy is a full-time, fixed-term position that will end on December 31, 2022. Please note, the position may end prior to 18 months if funding ceases or the work is complete. In addition, the position may continue beyond 18 months if funding is renewed or extended.

The Media Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of a wide range of communications, including social media, print media, public service announcement videos and program campaigns, and will participate in department initiatives and projects, as well as County committees and forums. Given the County’s desire to target additional outreach to our Spanish-speaking residents, English/Spanish bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is experienced in communications, marketing, and/or community outreach and has government agency or nonprofit experience with creating social media campaigns. They have demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing, content development, graphic design, video development (scripting/storyboarding, editing and production), social media engagement, public speaking, content website design, and photography.

We are looking for someone who can conceptualize and produce communication materials from start to finish through a variety of mediums, including, but not limited to: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, web content management systems, email marketing platforms, and film/video software. English/Spanish bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply given the County’s desire to increase outreach to our Spanish-speaking residents – our largest non-English speaking community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities listed in the class specification. Typically, this would be the equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a closely related field and two years of progressively responsible experience in media-related activities. Additional professional experience in media activities may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements: Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff's Department and must pass a Department of Justice LiveScan background check prior to appointment.

Bilingual Certification: Successful candidates must demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English speaking and writing prior to appointment. If the selected candidates have not taken the test, a bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements of the position.
