The USA TODAY Network - Florida is seeking an aggressive investigative reporter to break news, expose injustice and champion access to public information in the Sunshine State.

This reporters top priority will be both deep impact locally and broad impact in the Florida networks markets that stretch from the east to west coasts and from Pensacola to Palm Beach.

The position is based in Southwest Florida, at the Naples Daily News and The News-Press (Fort Myers), and the reporters first focus will be watchdog stories in this reader-savvy and reader-supported market. But while rooted in local reporting, this reporter will be expected to quickly identify investigations that have statewide and national importance. The successful candidate will have clips that show he or she is passionate about making a difference and holding public officials accountable; demonstrates aggressive public records use and deep source-building; adeptly gathers, organizes and analyzes data; has keen news judgment, and shows both flair and sensitivity in storytelling.

This reporter will be able to work on short-, medium- and long-term stories simultaneously and will be an eager and collaborative member of the Southwest Florida team. This reporters skills will be relied on during breaking news events, but the typical workweek will be a balance of quick watchdog for short-term enterprise and time for longer, deeper investigations.

Foreign language proficiency, especially Spanish, is preferred.
