This person will work across the newsroom at every stage of the content life-cycle to brainstorm, identify, optimize and promote our best content thats worth paying for. This person understands that working with content is equal parts art and science and balances an obsession with analytics with a fascination with what makes people sit up and pay attention.

  • Quality control all subscriber content to make sure its impact is maximized, including optimizing headlines, promo images and production
  • Work with editors and reporters to identify what kinds of content best converts people to subscribers and performs well with our existing subscribers, including understanding audiences, beat mapping, pairing subscriber only and metered content and more. Help hold the newsroom accountable to KPIs

  • Work with other departments, including digital, marketing and product to improve the subscriber experience
  • Establish processes and procedures to improve workflow for subscriber only content
  • Assist in directing and editing evening breaking news content. While this person will not supervise the night breaking news reporter, they will work closely with the reporter to follow the breaking news strategy to cover night breaking news, including directing the reporter, editing copy and communicating with the Digital Optimization Team

  • Bachelors degree in journalism, English, marketing, communications or similar
  • At least two years post-college working in a newsroom or in marketing, preferably with a background in subscription services
  • Understanding of the sales funnel for converting casual readers into dedicated subscribers
  • Comfortable understanding, explaining and acting on a variety of analytics, including traffic, conversions, loyalty and more
  • A flair for headline writing that combines data and an understanding of whats interesting
  • A strong understanding of journalism ethics and the ability to balance business needs with public good
  • A passion for planning and organization
  • Sound news judgement
