Description

The Middle School Assistant Principal will serve as a member of the administrative team, collaborating in developing and implementing school policies, programs and curriculum in a manner that promotes the academic, social and emotional development of all students and the professional development of staff. 

This position requires a creative and inspiring educator with school leadership experience, high energy, excellent organizational skills and a talent for creating a warm and supportive environment for children, staff, families and other stakeholders. This position requires a self-starter. The Middle School Assistant Principal reports to the Middle School Principal.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Educational Leadership 

  • Serve as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program. 
  • Supervise and evaluate those assigned by Principal 
  • Assist in the development and establishing of the school goals and objectives and the planning of the school’s instructional program 
  • Assist in providing direction to staff in implementing goals and objectives and interacts and meets with staff to assist in their development 
  • Assist in the evaluation of the school program and staff and initiate needed improvements
  • Communicate and carry out established policies, delegate and accept responsibility for completion of tasks and communicate program goals, objectives and policies to the community 
  • Assist in supervising and maintaining auxiliary services 
  • Coordinate and facilitate all state mandated tests to be administered to students
  • Conduct training sessions for faculty, staff and community volunteers
  • Collect and assist in the disaggregation of test data
  • Prepare, organize and implement the master schedule of courses, which includes oversight of student course registration
  • Oversee State licensure and renewal process, ensuring that records are accurate and are shared with the staff
  • Assist in the development and revision of the Lake Norman Charter School student handbook and disciplinary policy, in consult with the board of directors, school superintendent and administrative staff 
  • Participate in the interview process for new staff
  • Reflect on and seek opportunities for leadership development to ensure continuous professional growth
  • Display the will and skill to lead and participate in effective professional learning communities
  • Manifest high levels of professionalism in daily business
  • Perform other duties and administrative functions as assigned by the school superintendent and middle school principal

Culture and Climate:

  • Serve as primary contact for teachers when a student disciplinary issue arises
  • Regularly disseminate information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents/guardians, students, staff and other stakeholders as needed and required
  • Maintain accurate behavior data and provide monthly behavior reports
  • Maintain accurate behavior data, as required by the State of North Carolina; meet all state reporting deadlines
  • Accurately monitor and analyze daily student attendance, academic and discipline data; create new systems and structures to proactively address areas of need
  • Supervise and coordinate carpool (arrival and dismissal), recess and other transitions to ensure they are orderly and safe
  • Enforce and monitor the enforcement of the student code of conduct, including but not limited to attendance, behavior and dress code
  • Promote and maintain open communication, positive student attitudes
  • Respect dignity of staff and students, and comply with established lines of authority
  • Participate in planning and facilitating staff development activities, Team Leader meetings, department meetings, recognition assemblies, parent academies, community meetings and other school-wide culture building activities
  • Facilitate mentor/mentee program for new staff members hired at LNC
  • Evaluate field trip requests, ensuring that trip procedures are aligned with current LNC policies

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

  • Knowledge of current school operating conditions
  • Understanding of NC and LNC staff performance appraisal systems 
  • Understanding of the operations of PowerSchool
  • Knowledge of NC Licensure and HQ/NCLB requirements 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively work with diverse groups to solve problems 
  • Ability to multi-task and respond promptly and professionally within the school environment
  • Ability to use data to direct student, staff and organizational decision-making


SUGGESTED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPEREIENCE

Able to qualify for NC licensure as a school principal (School Administrator)

NC licensure based upon satisfactory completion of a program of graduate study leading to the Master’s Degree in School Administration in compliance with the NC requirements for such certification 

NC DPI license preferred, but current enrollment in an approved program is required

Prior experience as a successful classroom teacher is expected
