Job Title: Outdoor Preschool Lead Teacher
Department: SICDC
Report to: Assistant Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
TS Range: 5/6($17.78)

SUMMARY: The Squaxin Island Child Development Center Outdoor Lead Teacher with support from the center
leadership team, provides outdoor classroom instruction, support and a nurturing environment for all children that provides optimal social, emotional, and intellectual development. This is a full day outside nature-based kindergarten readiness program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROGRAM STANDARDS:
Plan, supervise and implement a specific age group of young children.
Provide an integrated, developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the developmental needs of the specific group and individual child.
Assist children with self-help and social, emotional skills.
Utilize and promote positive guidance techniques.
Assess children’s needs and developmental progress on an ongoing basis and apply to curriculum.
Promote a climate of respect for each child’s personality, culture, language, family structure and developmental needs and behaviors.
Model and provide direction and guidance for the classroom team (i.e., assistant teacher, aides, and volunteers)
Facilitate positive and productive relationships with families.
Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly records with regards to attendance, communication with families,
curriculum, assessments, health, and nutrition in electronic data bases.
Adhere to all safety and health guidelines.
Participates in ongoing professional development, including coursework, staff meetings, parent meetings, center events and keeping current on all trainings, and maintain TSG reliability for the position.
Always maintains confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
Positively project the center, mission, goals, philosophies and policies to parents, staff, and the community.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROGRAM STANDARDS:
Must be 18 years old.
Have an AA degree in Early Childhood or a related field and two years’ experience working with young children in an outdoor learning environment.
Outdoor environmental early learning training or professional development plan, including lifeguard certification (may be part of training plan after employment)
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Can effectively speak with parents about their child’s
development and to write correspondences to families.
Basic computer skills, ability to collect, enter and use data bases to track, monitor and report child development
Can read and interpret documents such as curriculum, assessments, safety rules and procedure manuals.
Experience with observations, curriculum development and assessment of young children.
Complete all pre-employment requirements:

o Fingerprint Clearance
o Food Handler Permit within 30 days of hire
o DCYF Orientation Training within 30 days of hire

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals,
financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms,
quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROGRAM STANDARDS: The physical demands of an
Outdoor Preschool Lead Teacher are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. This may include at any given time during the employee’s shift, lifting, carrying, holding, bending, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, reaching, or moving children with a weight range of 10-50 pounds and finally, responding immediately and appropriately to multiple or unexpected situations or emergencies. Employee will be outdoors in all types of weather for the majority of their assigned shift.
