Community Engagement Producer - Sports
The USA TODAY Network, which includes more than 260 local news organizations and the flagship USA TODAY, is seeking experienced digital producers to join the engagement desk of our new subscription sports service. The candidate will be dedicated to engaging users within our content ecosystem. The candidate must demonstrate good news judgment and an entrepreneurial spirit, should have prior digital news or story-packaging experience and have sound SEO and social knowledge. Candidates must be detail-oriented and work well under pressure to meet demanding deadlines and demonstrate strong knowledge of sports journalism. The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator, who can work closely with reporters, content coaches and newsroom leadership. This role will include early morning, night and/or weekend work.
Typical job duties:
- Pitch content ideas, including stories, videos and graphics, that capitalize on what is trending with our digital audience
- Connect with our community of sports fans through outreach on social media
- Edit, produce and publish content, optimizing for SEO and digital best practices
- Work with reporters and editors on daily coverage and projects, offering digital guidance
- Manage home pages/fronts and produce engaging social media content, to engage a loyal audience
- Monitor wire services and social media, for trending news
- Use metrics to determine traffic patterns and make changes tied to the data. Familiarity with Parse.ly and Google Analytics products a plus
- Work collaboratively with network partners to plan and share content
Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in communications or journalism, or the equivalent in experience and education
- At least 2-5 years of experience working for a daily news organization
- Strong understanding of audience analytics and how to use them to drive content decisions
- Deep knowledge and passion for sports
- Excellent news judgment
- Ability to act calmly and decisively in complex breaking news situations
- Knowledge of AP style
- Top-notch writing, editing and headline-writing skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced news environment
- Commitment to diversity in reflecting the communities we cover
- Proficiency on social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Reddit
