Content Coach - Investigations & Enterprise
The Augusta Chronicle/augustachronicle.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, seeks a newsroom coach to lead investigations and enterprise coverage and serve as a coach for reporters in Georgias second-largest city. With an eye on building our digital audience with memorable stories that make a lasting impact on this diverse community, this editor spearheads transformative coverage.
This editor is comfortable in the role of coach. Journalists are challenged and guided through the reporting process. The newsroom coach leads the biggest projects on issues ranging from racial equity to health care, business, education and local government. This editor works closely with digital leaders to ensure content is most successful with our online audiences.
Collaboration, leadership and communication are guideposts for the person wholl partner closely with the News Director to make Augusta Chronicle one of the leading news organizations in Georgia.
Responsibilities:

Supervises the work of reporters, with an emphasis on independent ideas and content generation.

Works individually with content creators by identifying areas for improvement and coaching them on how to elevate their work.

Edits the top fraction of enterprise, watchdog, or investigative content that needs a high-level line editing touch.

Participates in community-connection discussions to advocate for audiences.

Monitors real-time data to direct changes tied to the data.

Identifies and addresses training needs of individuals and groups.
Requirements:

Bachelor's or masters in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

5 years of experience in journalism writing, editing or management roles.

Values diverse backgrounds and pushes for social justice reporting. Finds overlooked audiences to report on.

Solid news judgment and the ability to consistently produce clean copy, whether stories, captions or headlines.
-
Top-notch organizational and time management skills are a must.

Command of media law and principles of ethical conduct.

Must embrace peer-to-peer training, as a both a teacher and student.

Experience with advanced storytelling techniques on multiple platforms.

Experience editing and shaping watchdog and investigative journalism.

Exceptional planning and organizational skills.

Understanding use of metrics, social-media and SEO knowledge.

Self-motivation and self-direction.

Strong grasp of journalism skills (reporting and editing) and advanced knowledge of writing, spelling, grammar, AP and local style.

Able to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
