Public Safety reporter
As the role of policing evolves in our communities, the York Daily Record is looking for a reporter to cover public safety in central Pennsylvania, as an issue that deeply affects people on an individual level. We will get beyond the news releases and truly listen to those impacted by crime. We will break major news of the day as needed, creating videos and shooting photos as well as writing stories. But much of your work will be devoted to issues, problems and solutions confronting communities and those who serve them in the areas of police, fire and other emergency services. You will keep statistics and seek data from other sources to better inform your reporting. You will spend time in neighborhoods learning about the people and building trust along with sources.
The York Daily Record is part of Gannett Inc. and the USA TODAY NETWORK. Our reporters work closely with our 13 partner newsrooms across Pennsylvania and with more than 200 newsrooms across the country, including USA Today. To work here is to work directly with many of the finest journalists in the nation.
The right candidate will have a demonstrated ability to turn news around quickly when needed, producing photos and video, and also pursue stories through watchdog and enterprise journalism. We are looking for someone with a passion for reporting and breaking stories of consequence. And we are looking for someone who can tell great stories and write clearly.

A proven track record of breaking news and watchdog work.
