Chesterfield County is seeking a Principal Automation Analyst to analyze the Department of Utilities' information needs and make recommendations for improvements. Develop, interpret and support relational database solutions in a Microsoft SQL Server environment and vendor supported software. Address critical business functions or needs for the department. Work with vendors on enhancement requests and troubleshooting issues. Support the department's needs with the County's Enterprise Land Management software, as well as, other interconnected systems associated with Utilities' role in Community Development. Extract data, present data, and put data into spreadsheets; create, modify and test various SQL queries, stored procedures, and/or views for obtaining data. Assist with the digital preservation of electronic records and the department's "Help Desk" oversight as needed. Create consistent and accurate technical documentation of implemented applications, databases, and systems. Create and modify existing reports. Provide work direction to the systems team and act as the team lead in the automation coordinator's absence. Train and mentor other analysts and assist in the research and implementation of best practices for the department's database environment including maintenance issues, operation requirements, disaster recovery, and security. Evaluate and propose the effectiveness of alternative approaches to user needs; assist in the training of department personnel in the utilization of computer systems and software. Position open until filled (first review to begin April 26, 2021). Successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, business administration or a related field; three to five years of experience in the implementation and support of business information systems; one year of network and server administration preferred; or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience with the creation of report specifications and the development of reports in an enterprise environment. Ability to manage the digital preservation of critical infrastructure data and administer the associated record retention schedules. Experience with Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams, servers and their environments, as well as higher level database systems and structures. Ability to develop and organize high quality technical system documentation. Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects; excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to identify, research and recommend equipment and/or software improvements and upgrades.
