CNA must be able to use general nursing assistance practices and techniques such as toileting, bathing, showering, proper, and safe lifting techniques; general behaviors and traits of geriatric population and how to work effectively; ability to read and write, ability to follow written and verbal directions; ability to work as a treatment/health team member; ability to show interest and care to residents and their families; knowledge of sanitation, universal precautions, and safety; ability to work varied schedules to include weekend shifts and be prompt and consistent in maintaining work schedule. The Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing nursing care to the resident in the areas of: daily hygiene, toileting, feeding, moving safely to activities and other functions, and maintaining the cleanliness and care of the resident’s room.
