CORPORATE SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Alphia, one of the nation’s leading custom pet food manufacturing companies, is growing and is looking for a Corporate Senior Accountant to join the team. The Corporate Senior Accountant is responsible for the maintenance of the balance sheet by supporting general accounting activities including the preparation and entry/posting of various journal entries, and supporting accounts receivable, and accounts payable as issues arise. Further, the position will assist the VP Finance and Corporate Controller and Assistant Corporate Controller for month end closing including the maintenance of the general ledger ensuring practices and policies are adhered to including the accuracy and timeliness of journal entries and other responsibilities as assigned from time to time. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, various ad-hoc financial reporting activities and analysis, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. This position can be based in Denver, CO, Bern, KS or Ogden, UT.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the general ledger structure and various systems used (i.e. SAGE X3)
Document & maintain daily, weekly, and monthly accounting procedures.
Prepare all monthly journal entries & general ledger account reconciliations.
Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
Assists with coordination of annual audit, and any other special audits, throughout the year.
Prepare or assist in the preparation of sales tax filings.
Ensure the accurate and timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
Responds to inquiries from accounting management regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial & operating budgets.
Promote effective, honest, and open communication throughout the accounting department and company.
Assist in the maintenance of the fixed asset inventory system by recording of all items in the inventory, maintaining pertinent records, and ensuring correct treatment of fixed asset acquisitions and retirements.
Coordinates annual fixed asset inventory.
Bank account reconciliations.
Special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to be successful for this role:
Education: Minimum Associates Degree in Accounting. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is ideal.
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years accounting experience
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or other related software
Willing to work in a team environment and contribute to group goals
Understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Strong experience in general ledger management, accounting information systems, and financial reporting including general ledger account reconciliation.
Ability to work independently and adhere to tight deadlines.
Effective time-management skills.
Excellent communications skills.
