Equipment Operator (Streets and Roads)
The minimum hourly rate is $14.729 per hour
This position is non-exempt and is eligible for overtime
Pay Grade 510
You must have a CLASS B CDL in order to qualify and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
The purpose of this classification is to provide maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained city through the operation of necessary equipment to accomplish the specified tasks. This classification works under close supervision according to set procedures.
High school, GED, or specialized vocational training; and, a minimum of one (1) year of experience operating similar equipment; or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Operates equipment including but not limited to backhoe, forklift, dump truck, and tractors
Performs preventative and needed maintenance on equipment to maintain proper running condition
Completes construction work on roads, parks, and other government property
Enters data into a database for tracking of completed orders and creation of reports
Travels to sites and performs on-site visits and assessments
Conducts snow and hazardous waste removal
Assists and supports special events as needed
Valid Kentucky Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - Class B (Allows you to operate single vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 lbs or more OR a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 lbs. or more, towing trailers/vehicles rated at 10,000 pounds GVWR or less. A Class "B" license also allows you to operate Class C vehicles) and a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner’s Certificate in order to qualify and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
Must be able to perform on-call duty work in all weather conditions.
Must be able to operate Urban County Government equipment and vehicles in a safe, prudent and responsible manner.
All positions require drug testing before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16.

Based on Federal Regulations 19-10 this position may be eligible for and offered the hepatitis vaccinations. In addition, employees will be required to sign a statement stating they have accepted or declined the hepatitis vaccination.
The applicant's training and experience will be evaluated based on the information provided by the filing deadline date on the application form. Applicants that meet the minimum requirements of the posting will be invited to take the performance (Driving) test. After passing tests the applicant may be contacted for an interview.
