Full Job Description

Responsibilities:

This position will be a customer service position in the Collections and Distribution Department.

  • Works in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and other duties as assigned.
  • Reading meters, turning services on and off, locating utilities as locates are requested, changing out bad meters, filling out meter cards, working with the Cities water desk staff for issues with accounts, and all other customer service duties as assigned.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain water distribution systems, storm drains, sewer collection systems, and sewer lift stations.
  • This position work in all aspects of the street maintenance department.
  • Paving, patching, sign maintenance, concrete repair/installation, snow removal/sanding etc.
  • Perform labor involved in the construction and maintenance of water distribution: install, repair and read water meters; exercise valves; install and repair water lines, standpipes, valves, pumps, etc.; and perform water shut-offs and turn-ons; repair and install manholes, cleanouts; and clean debris from catch basins.
  • Produce a variety of records and reports relating to these activities.
  • Operate, maintain and perform the minor repairs to light and heavy equipment (backhoe, loader, sewer cleaner, welders, etc.).
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance of assigned equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools before and after use.
  • Report defects or needed repairs to the lead worker or supervisor.
  • Respond to various customer service requests and report findings to the lead worker or supervisor.
  • Maintain good public relations through courteous and prompt attention to customer complaints.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and respectful work relationships with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Use utility locator service prior to any excavation.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Complete daily work activities according to work schedules.
  • Measure, compute and convert English and metric systems.
  • Report public hazards (potholes, fallen street signs, water leaks, etc.) to the lead worker or supervisor.
  • May assist other public works departments as needed.
  • Maintain proficiency by attending meetings and training, reviewing reports, and reading professional materials and journals.

On-call is required, be able to respond to after-hours emergencies within a reasonable time

Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

Class "A" Commercial Driver's License or obtain within 3- 6 month from the date of hire

CPR-First aid within 6 months from date of hire

Needs to have computer skill
