Description

University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) at Sac State is seeking an Operations and Aquatics Coordinator for The WELL. The WELL, totaling approximately 150,000 square feet, houses three fitness studios, a cardio suite, two fitness floors, a multi-activity court, four basketball courts, a rock climbing wall, four racquetball courts, an indoor running track, locker rooms, and conference center. The WELL is also home to Student Health and Counseling Services. The facilities provide services to over 31,000 students, as well as faculty and staff on campus.

Position Overview:

The Coordinator of Operations and Aquatics assists with the management and direct supervision of The WELL’s building operations, including oversight of the operations service desk and locker rental program, administers all aquatics recreation programming, executes evaluations and assessments of area specific operations, advises the Assistant Director, Member Services and Operations of policy or operational improvements, and supports current partnerships while developing new relationships that support the mission of the WELL. In addition, the position will assist with the creation and management of the strategic plan and budget plan for all operations within related areas of management including operations and aquatics; monitoring expenses; and working with all WELL full-time staff and student staff to promote a successful recreation experience. This position reports to, and receives direction from, the Assistant Director of Member Services and Operations. The Coordinator of Operations and Aquatics will supervise all building operation staff and aquatics staff, to include part-time staff, interns, student assistants, casual employees, and volunteers.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists in the development, coordination, organization, and management of general building operations including daily supervision, risk management, security, inventory, staffing, policy enforcement, procedures, and all financial transactions. Assists in the development, coordination, organization, and management of the aquatics program including program development, daily supervision, risk management, security, inventory, staffing, policy enforcement, procedures, and all financial transactions. Oversees all functions of aquatic programming, including developing and implementing informal recreation, swimming lessons, classes, and special events. Responsible for ensuring facility supervision and security during all hours of operation and assists with injury and incident management as needed. Oversees all functions of the Operations Service desk to include staffing, customer service, equipment checkout, and financial transactions. Develops, implements, and coordinates a locker rental service program. Works with the Assistant Director, Member Services and Operations to track physical inventory, compile inventory reports, and make recommendations for future inventory purchases within areas of oversight. Develops, implements, and coordinates equipment inspection standards and equipment use checklists within areas of oversight. Tracks equipment usage and inspections for compliance with standard industry regulations. Assists with the ongoing evaluation of all related programs, including completing participant evaluations and/or assessments, focus groups, informal discussion, and written program surveys. Ensures all activities are conducted in accordance with established and approved rules and regulations that address participant’s safety as a high priority as well as established service standards. Ensures that employees are provided safety training and attend safety meetings. Responsible for risk management associated with all assigned program areas. Consults as needed with the Assistant Director, Member Services and Operations and proposes appropriate policy changes to provide a safe environment for all. Assists with the development and implementation of safety and risk management training for all WELL staff regarding equipment and other related items and/or activities. Assists with the facilitation of staff emergency preparedness drills. Creates and leads a staff and volunteer team including hiring, training, development, and evaluation of staff and volunteers. Analyzes and establishes proper staffing levels to meet program needs and safety standards. Assists in the management and development of all financial transactions pertaining to operations and aquatics. Assist in development, preparation, and monitoring of the budget for specific program areas. Supports and maintains a sound working relationship with all partners in the WELL in order to create a dynamic and fully collaborative recreation and wellness program. Assists and supports Union WELL Inc. partners in custodial and maintenance related operations to ensure a safe, clean, and functioning facility. Works with campus partners to ensure safety, maintenance, and operation of campus pool. Recommends future modifications to programs using structured member feedback through on-going evaluations, focus groups, and surveys. Makes improvements and recommends innovations and changes that enhance the programs and facility. Assists the Assistant Director, Member Services and Operations with creating a strategic plan that is responsive to student, faculty, and staff input regarding programs and services. Assists with creating student learning objectives and an assessment program that will demonstrate the attainment of skills, knowledge, and overall personal growth as a result of participation in these programs, student employment, or as a volunteer. Works evenings and weekends based on staffing and program needs. Performs other duties of a similar nature as requested by Assistant Director and, when designated, can act in the absence of the Assistant Director.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience. Demonstrated experience in facility management or operations within campus recreation or equivalent experience in another recreational setting. Demonstrated experience with aquatic programming or day-to-day pool operations, such as experience as a lifeguard. Demonstrated supervisory or management experience including selecting, training, coordinating, and evaluating a diverse workforce. Knowledge of budgeting and risk management. Ability to direct management goals, facilitate change, and create and implement innovative programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports. Demonstrated experience working with personal computer software applications including word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, internet, and email software, such as the programs in the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience using recreation or facility management related software. Experience working in a multicultural environment. Must acquire Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid certification within three (3) months of employment. Certification must be kept current. Must be able to work a varying schedule that includes evenings and weekends. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff and the surrounding community. Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check. Must continue to meet the established standards.


Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Higher Education, or related field. Demonstrated progressively responsible recreation programming experience within campus recreation or equivalent experience in another setting. Demonstrated experience in large student recreation centers, student unions, student activities, residence life, or student development. Certified Instructor of Lifeguarding, Water Safety, and/or CPR/AED and First Aid.
