University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) at Sac State is seeking a Graphic Designer I for the Office of Water Programs (OWP). The Mission of the Office of Water Programs is to provide cost-effective solutions for protecting and enhancing water resources, public health, and the environment through training, scientific research, and public education. Our operator training group develops and implements programs and publishes training materials for operators of water treatment plants, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and municipal and industrial wastewater treatment and reclamation facilities. We also offer programs and publications for pretreatment facility inspectors, environmental compliance inspectors, and utility managers. All training is offered as distance learning, using correspondence, video, or computer-based formats with opportunities to earn continuing education and contact hours for operators, supervisors, managers, and administrators. Research group engineers and scientists perform and manage research efforts focused on characterizing water quality issues, including developing and testing methods to improve water quality. Our researchers provide technical advice on water policy issues, assist in watershed planning, and perform modeling, data analysis, and cost assessments to help both the public and private sectors make informed decisions based on accurate information and good science.

Pay Rate: $3,453 - $4,834 per month
Under the supervision of the Senior Graphic Designer, the position provides graphic design services in the development of effective communication delivered via printed and digital materials. Materials include websites, web applications, publications, books, catalogs, reports, signage, tradeshow exhibits, brochures, marketing ephemera, apparel, and packaging. This position works collaboratively with project managers in the planning and development of project deliverables. This position receives general supervision from the Senior Graphic Designer. The position provides some work direction and coordination for student interns.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Creates and maintains cohesive brand experience across all touchpoints, from digital to print under supervision of Senior Designer. Designs, develops, and creates marketing and public relations publications, promotional displays, and electronic presentations. Prepares a variety of graphics (figures, flow charts, organization charts, etc.) in support of technical documents. Collaborates with internal clients, project managers, and staff members to establish project requirements and deliverables. Researches information, develops ideas, writes headlines, and submits multiple design alternatives to clients and project managers for review and comment. Revises initial submissions to develop final products in consultation with staff and project managers. Uses computer software systems, and art supplies to create and develop designs, layouts, illustrations, art, logos, photography, maps, and other deliverables. Produces digital pre-press files for printers. Conducts photo and video capture assignments. Performs digital photo manipulation for use in printed materials and web sites. Performs minor video editing. Ensures high-quality printing, products, and materials. Requests multiple estimates from vendors. Recommends the appropriate vendor for the project. Coordinates and schedules printing and vendor services in the preparation of final products. Performs press checks and obtains final approval for copy before the commencement of printing production runs. Checks material and proofreads for spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency, and format. Develops historical files on design projects and archives development work. Updates websites working with existing templates. Works with development team to design and optimize user experience. Builds and optimizes user interfaces based on user information, research, and best practices. Maintains accurate logs, documenting the time, materials, and resources used per project for billing and cost allocation. Provides some work direction, software assistance, and insight on client communication for student interns during projects. Assists with special design and research projects for project managers, as assigned. Represents OWP in contacts with the campus community, the public, and others concerned with the services provided by the OWP design team.
Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience. Portfolio of work (physical and/or online) showcasing successful design projects. Demonstrated experience in design, marketing, art, and publication preparation. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of graphic design, illustration, typography, color theory, corporate identity, publication layout, printed materials, packaging, signage, and responsive web design for digital interfaces. Demonstrated experience with Mac OS and Windows 10 environments required for the administration of marketing functions and graphics design. Demonstrated knowledge and experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications, such as, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, Acrobat DC, XD, and Premiere Pro, and Microsoft Office Suite applications, such as, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated experience working with printers and outside vendors. Demonstrated experience with prioritizing and management of multiple projects. Demonstrated knowledge of basic photography and ability to use full-frame digital SLR cameras as well as mobile devices. Demonstrated knowledge of spot and four-color process as it pertains to press and digital printing. Demonstrated ability to prepare digital files for production. Must pass a background check, which may include fingerprinting. Must continue to meet the established standards.
