Editor, The Oklahoman/Oklahoman.com

The Oklahoman, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a digitally savvy, audience-driven assignment editor who has a gift for storytelling, knows when more reporting is needed, can spot the big story hiding in the daily and can work with reporters at all levels to help them produce the best work of their career. The ideal candidate is a news junkie who is as comfortable handling breaking news as powerful narratives and deep-dive investigations. You also:

  • have a proven track record of delivering ground-breaking enterprise, either as an editor or reporter
  • are eager to stretch the boundaries of traditional, print-centric storytelling, but also understand the importance of a nut graph
  • have a deep commitment to inclusive journalism and insist that your reporters expand their source list and tell the stories of people and communities often overlooked by the media except in moments of crisis
  • believe in working collaboratively with our photo, video, graphics and digital teams along every step of the enterprise process to produce packages that explode on multiple platforms
  • have a strong grasp of AP style and journalism standards and ethics
  • have at least three-year's experience working at a mid-size daily or equivalent experience.

We are in the midst of re-imaging our beats and how we tell stories. Our new editor will be someone who wants a hand in reshaping our newsroom and is deft at rolling with the changes.

Oklahoma is a land rife with powerful stories waiting to be told, and Oklahoma City is up and coming, with great dining, affordable housing and plenty to do. Come help us tell those stories.

The salaried position includes occasional night, weekend and holiday hours. The Oklahoman is committed to diversity and proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment, post-offer background check.
