The Pueblo Chieftain, an award-winning member of the USA TODAY Network, seeks a high-energy education reporter to cover this diverse city of 110,000.

Were looking for a candidate who knows how to ask great questions, dig for stories and moves quickly. The successful candidate has a passion for news of the day, wherever it might be found. Multi-platform fluency is a must: The candidate must have a digital-first mindset, have video shooting and editing experience and have solid SEO writing knowledge..

Social media should serve as a primary source and outlet for your work. Other sources include police and court records, press releases, scanner traffic, reader and staff news tips, etc.

This reporter will report on Pueblos two school districts, Colorado State University Pueblo and Pueblo Community College. The ideal candidate will also produce videos for our mobile and desktop audiences while sharing the news through social media.

We also expect the ideal candidate to have ideas about how to connect education to larger discussions about big issues: diversity; socioeconomics; the economy; the digital divide, race and sexual orientation and more.

The job may require the reporter to work nights or weekends. Candidates must have a valid drivers license with a good driving record, proof of insurance and their own transportation.

The reporter will uphold the highest standards of journalist integrity and credibility.

The ability to fluently speak Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's in Communication, Journalism, or equivalent experience and education

1-2 years of experience preferred

Knows how to use time efficiently in a 24-hour newsroom

Works collaboratively within a cross-functional environment

Experience developing following around personal journalism through use of social media

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; strong social media skills required

Strong organizational and planning skills

- Strong SEO writing skills

- Ability to shoot and edit video
