Internal Auditor

REPORTS TO: VP, Compliance and Internal Audit

We are currently  looking for someone to join our Compliance team as an Internal Auditor at our Westloop branch in Manhattan. 

As an Internal Auditor, you will work at the direction of the Vice President, Compliance and Internal Audit and be primarily responsible  for administering the Bank’s comprehensive internal audit program and evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency and adequacy of the  Bank’s system of internal controls. 


  • Maintain and document a comprehensive understanding of the Bank’s activities and operations 
  • Employ a methodology to objectively measure various forms of inherent risk on a quantitative and qualitative basis • Maintain documentation of key internal controls across all such activities and operations 
  • Based on such understanding and methodology, prepare and conduct all-inclusive control risk assessments on at least an annual  basis 
  • Assist in developing the annual audit scope, prioritized on a quantitative basis by risk 
  • Develop and update as necessary audit procedures appropriate to the approved scope 
  • Following such audit scope and using such procedures, effect the planning, coordination and conduct of internal audits • Examines the accuracy, reliability, timeliness, and integrity of financial and operating information and the means used to identify  measure, classify, and report such information 
  • Conduct follow-up reviews of financial, operational, or regulatory compliance deficiencies noted during audits • Coordinate with the Compliance Officer in the testing and documentation of adherence to relevant laws and consumer compliance  regulations 
  • Work with the external auditors and regulators by providing requested data and answering audit-specific questions as needed. • Research and follow up on external audit findings or issues and work with management to resolve issues • Report audit findings to relevant employees; document corrective actions; report findings and actions to the Audit Committee • Tracks and thoroughly documents audit findings and management’s remediation plans and follows up on them through completion. • Maintain a system to document the results of items (3) through (6) 
  • Based on the results of risk assessments and audits, make recommendations to mitigate risk(s) and/or improve efficiency • FDICIA controls. Implements prescribed testing procedures. Updates the Internal Controls Documentation. Reports on exceptions  found in control testing. Recommends changes in the Bank’s internal controls procedures when warranted. • Stay abreast of emerging issues involving internal audit, regulatory changes to federal banking laws, and rules and regulations that  could affect the Bank 
  • On at least an annual basis, prepare for the Audit Committee an overall analysis of the Bank’s inherent and residual risk posture  across all categories of risk, and summarize the adequacy of the Bank’ internal control environment 
  • Conduct special reviews or investigations at the request of Internal Audit management 
  • Maintains high level of integrity and professionalism to handle sensitive and confidential data/materials/information received and/or  reviewed 


  • A high school diploma or GED is required 
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics or related field; an advanced degree is a plus • Certified Internal Auditor or similarly recognized professional certification 


  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of commercial bank financial accounting, external reporting, operations, lending activities and  other services; and related state and federal laws and regulations 
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible audit experience in a regulated financial services enterprise • Strong analytical and project management skills 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of customer and employee information 
  • Advanced skills in MS-Office and audit-specific software 
  • Team player; excellent internal and external communication skills, both written and verbal 
  • Excellent work ethic that can generate effective change while being a good team player 
  • Ability to perform at a high level of competency with minimal supervision
