Waste Connections has an immediate opening for a highly motivated, results-oriented Legal Assistant in the Legal Department in The Woodlands, Texas.  This professional self-starter will provide support to the General Counsel, other attorneys in the Legal Department, and other executive officers working as a key member of the company's legal support staff.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, assemble and distribute materials for quarterly Board of Directors and Committee meetings and annual budget reviews.

  • Assemble and distribute acquisition summaries for Board of Directors review.

  • Arrange, assemble, coordinate and distribute press releases.

  • Prepare and distribute quarterly financial compliance certificates.

  • Set up and monitor quarterly earnings calls.

  • Update investor relations website quarterly and as necessary.

  • Generate, edit and distribute attorney correspondence and work product.

  • Assist attorneys with administration of incoming contract review/drafting requests, service of process for certain matters, and responses to subpoenas.

  • Assist attorneys with drafting of certain form agreements and updating W-9s.

  • Assist with general administrative tasks, including word processing, answering phones, copying, scanning, filing, preparing binders, etc. 

  • Back up receptionist desk when needed.


  • Five-plus years of related experience, preferably supporting attorneys within a corporate legal department or law firm environment.

  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Word, Outlook and PowerPoint required.

  • Proven experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel.

  • Experience with document management and comparison programs such as Worldox and Workshare, and with online invoice and matter management systems such as Legal Tracker (formerly Serengeti Tracker), preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree, paralegal certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage projects and calendar matters for follow-up.

  • Professionalism, discretion, ability to work with others and good judgment.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, solve problems and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
