Editorial Writer, The Palm Beach Post

The Palm Beach Post, part of the USA Today Network - Florida, is looking for anEditorial Writerfor its award-winning Opinion Department.

This personwill help shape the Posts opinion offerings through strongly reported and written editorials, andbyselecting and editingcolumnssubmitted bypeople in the community, as well as from state and national authors about topics of interest to our local audience.

Thiswriter willfocus on local and state issues andmeet withcommunity leaders to discuss policies and programs, and interview political candidates for potential endorsements in local, state and national elections.

Thewriter will act as an ambassador for the Post, keep a pulse on our vibrant, diverse community and find ways to expand the input from that community.

On occasion thiswriterwill work with opinion colleagues at other USA Today Network - Florida newspapers collaborating on ideas and content, to leverage the strength of the USAT Network.

Thewriter will be active on social media -- including Twitter and Facebook -- sharing local offerings and interacting with our engaged Digital readers, while also engaging with our loyal Print readers.

Thewriter will be comfortable in front of a camera, hosting Digital events,speaking to small or large groups, virtually and in person, and making public radio appearances.
He or shemust have a strong reporting and writing background and be able to quickly build an understanding of the complex issues facing our community;generate meaningful topics for editorials; andwrite important opinion piecesthat spur positive change.

Required qualifications:

Bachelors in Communications, Journalism or related field or the equivalent in experience and education.

Excellent and informed news judgment.

At least 10 years of experience in reporting.

Ability to research in depth,write gracefully and turn in copy free of imperfections.

Experience with taking photos and videos, publishing independently in print and online and promoting content on social media.

Interest in and experience in working with community members to learn about important issues and possibilities for solutions-oriented journalism.

Work with editors and producers to optimize content.
