The eligible list generated by this recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies throughout San Mateo County Libraries. The current vacancies are subject to change but are expected to include service to the North Fair Oaks and Half Moon Bay communities. Fluency in Spanish and English is required for both positions.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to:

Oversee all services in a busy public library and have the flexibility to provide services to the community for all age ranges.
Visualize, plan and deliver, assess, provide training on, and improve innovative library services that strengthen the community and have measurable results.
Bring a creative and meaningful approach to library programs and services.
Inspire youth and families from every background.
Support and advance San Mateo County Libraries initiatives such as Big Lift Inspiring Summers, summer programs focused on youth, and other evidence-based programs.
Plan, schedule, coordinate, promote and carry out programming and outreach, including school visits, special events, classes/workshops, story times, public speaking, etc.
Have some understanding of theories of infant, child and adolescent, and adult learning, literacy and brain development, and their implications for public library service.
Establish and strengthen cooperative working relationships with community members, various community services providers, and library staff.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment and contribute to system-wide projects, task forces and committees.
Inspire friendly customer service and model exemplary customer care in all interactions, including in person, online, at a program, at outreach events, helping with library card or circulation issues.
Skillfully use and trouble-shoot emerging technology as a tool to enhance effectiveness, innovation and efficiency.
Collaborate and team with others to share strengths across the organization.
Enjoy initiating interactions and public speaking, starting conversations and promoting the library to the community, one person at a time.
Communicate inclusively, with cultural sensitivity and be approachable in verbal, written and non-verbal communications.
Exhibit leadership to enhance our collaborative, warm & welcoming, optimistic and fun work culture.
Possess a growth mindset and be courageous in trying new strategies, taking risks and continuously learning.
Assist in the recruitment, training, coaching and management of volunteers and interns.
Lift and carry items such as books, laptops and programming supplies. You will also regularly push and pull carts, move tables and bend and crouch.


Librarian I: $33.80 - $42.25 Hourly
Librarian II: $36.86 - $46.06 Hourly

Minimum qualifications include a Master of Library Science or recognized equivalent degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university; the ability to speak, read and write fluently in both English and Spanish; and 2 years of librarian experience.
