The Gannett Shared Services Compliance & Transformation Senior Manager plays a critical role in the success of the future state of the organization. This role is responsible for proactively monitoring and evaluating our control environment, identifying and rectifying control deficiencies, supporting internal control rationalization efforts and designing controls to fit our future state operating model. This role also serves as a project manager to lead business transformation initiatives across the Gannett Shared Services organization.

Across the company, teams are focused on (1) accelerating digital subscriber growth, (2) driving digital marketing services growth, (3) optimizing the print business and (4) prioritizing and investing in growth opportunities such as the Companys events and promotions business. It is the responsibility of the Gannett Shared Services Compliance & Transformation Senior Manager to ensure the global shared services team is properly equipped to support these companywide initiatives through a best in class control framework and mindset of continuous improvement.

The Gannett Shared Services Compliance & Transformation Senior Manager will continually pressure test the shared services control environment, design and implement transformation initiatives to continuously improve the control environment and business processes, and serve as a change agent within the Gannett Shared Services organization.

The Gannett Shared Services Compliance & Transformation Senior Manager is responsible for:


  • Evaluating the internal control environment of Gannett Shared Services, to identify gaps and work with shared services leadership to close the gaps
  • Performing periodic testing over controls, documenting findings and working with shared services leadership and third-party providers to remediate deficiencies
  • Collaborating with Internal Audit to maintain the SSC control environment, ensuring compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and internal accounting policies
  • Coordinating with external auditors to ensure information is properly communicated, operational changes are understood, and audits are well planned
  • Working closely with IT to understand system configurations, SOD rules, and proactively address control gaps across our application landscape
  • Collaborating with and assisting, shared services leadership in creating a best in class control environment, including control design and execution
  • Building alignment and buy-in for identified control improvement initiatives
  • Designing and implementing strategies to continuously improve the control environment
  • Evaluating our BPO service provider on their control environment and adherence to Gannetts control expectations
  • Working directly with our BPO service provider on the transition of work and related controls
  • Directing our BPO service provider on any changes that are recommended to the Gannett control environment


  • Proactively identifying opportunities for operating efficiency
  • Developing the business case for change through documenting and assessing requirements, risks and budget estimates, and constructing project plans for execution
  • Effectively communicating why the change is needed and the expected end results
  • Building alignment and buy-in for identified transformation initiatives

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in finance, accounting or business management
  • Minimum of5 years of compliance, management consulting or related transformation experience
  • Six Sigma/Lean training is a strong plus
  • PMP certification is a strong plus
  • Demonstrated ability evaluating and testing internal control environments, identifying gaps and opportunities to improve or rationalize controls
  • Demonstrated ability leading process improvement projects, to include coordinating and facilitating multiple stakeholders for project execution, reporting, and risk management
  • Demonstrated project management experience involving stakeholders across multiple companiesand vendors
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to interact with and present to a diverse group of functional experts, managers, and senior executives
  • Ability to work independently and able to adapt quickly to dynamic work environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Visio
