IndyStar, part of Gannett Inc. and the USA TODAY NETWORK, is searching for Sports Clerks to join our Newsroom. The part-time position will work on nights and weekends.

The position is temporary, 18-20 hours a week. Individuals will play a key role in IndyStars high school sports coverage. Clerks will be asked to shoot iPhone video from football and basketball games and, when applicable, write athlete profiles/event coverage. Clerks will also help on Friday Night Live, IndyStars Red Zone-style show that streams live from 7-9:30pm on Fridays. There are shifts that require help on the agate desk and taking phone calls from coaches and making calls to coaches for post-game stats, entering stats into box score templates and tweeting out updates from our high school sports social media account.


  • Current college students and recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to take photos and record video/audio in the field.
  • Solid news judgment and adherence to journalism ethics.
  • Dedication to fairness and accuracy, as well as a commitment to report with compassion and sensitivity.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends.
  • Must have good computer skills and excellent phone etiquette.
