Job Description

The Motion Business Manager at Rockwell Automation directs the development of company market requirements for specific product(s) or product line(s), including product strategy definition, requirements analysis, and pricing. They monitor the development of business plans, managing lifecycles, and product positioning in the marketplace and reduce broad concepts and business strategies into structured product marketing plans. In addition, they oversee market research, monitor competitive activity, and identify customer needs, while establishing pricing strategies. Interaction with engineering, manufacturing and sales to enhance existing product(s) or product line(s) is critical success in the role.

Role Purpose

  • The Business Manager directs the development of company market requirements for specific business units within their area(s) of responsibilities across North America, including product strategy definition, requirements analysis, and pricing. 
  • Responsible for meeting North American Revenue and Gross Margin objectives for their respective businesses, with sales typically in the $200M-600M range.
  • Supports the development of business plans, including marketing and commercial programs to ensure product positioning in the marketplace.  Reduces broad concepts and business strategies into structured product marketing plans. Oversees market research, monitors competitive activity, and identifies customer needs. 
  • Analyze market, industry and competitive trends and aggregate requirements across North America to provide insight to respective businesses in alignment with Business Unit Leaders (Mgrs, Directors, VP/GM, SVP).  Supports new product definition and business plans with joint departments.
  • Participates in-organic growth opportunities evaluations and commercial integration.
  • Establishes pricing strategies within region.  Responsible for pricing guidance and management for a specific segment/product line of a business including approvals of pricing escalations.
  • Responsibilities include developing marketing strategies to optimize the performance of new product introductions, managing financial plans and objectives. Develop, implement and integrate strategic plans within the total business.
  • Assist in commercial marketing activities, interface with Product Business Units, act as an advisor and approver on proposal and pricing strategies for pursuits, and interface between customers and the Global Product Businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely information to support effective management of the business to all levels.
  • Development of business plans, including marketing and commercial programs to ensure product positioning in the marketplace.
  • Establishes pricing strategies within region. 
  • Provide timely support of pricing escalations from global revenue management team and field resources
  • Ensure regional selling resources maintain the appropriate competencies across assigned products and services.
  • Lead affinity teams across North American field sales for the product offering for which they are responsible.
  • Plan and execute commercial and marketing programs related to product responsibility.
  • Participates in-organic growth opportunities evaluations and commercial integration.
  • Define and articulate product differentiators and values versus competition.
  • Analyze competitive product lines, have knowledge of competitor's strategy, further define competitive differentiators.
  • Participate in trade shows, seminars and/or similar marketing activities, ensuring technical resources are able to support.
  • Lead launch of new products to the sales force and channel. 
  • Actively seek out and participate in both formal and informal training opportunities to continuously develop technical skills.
  • Ensure market access (System Integrators and Distributors) can articulate value and identify opportunities for new products and technologies within assigned product business.
  • Provide product gap and development feedback to appropriate business unit.
  • Collaborate and share insights with regional and global peers.
  • Understand business models, organization and go to market strategy; leverage where appropriate.
  • Knowledge of the industry strategies, familiarity with outcome-based selling.
  • Understands the business drivers and KPI's of the customer.
  • Keep sales and customer relationship management data up to date in tools (i.e. SFA), optimizing activities by using tools consistently.
  • Coach and develop Solution Consultants, Technology Consultants, and/or "Business" Leads.
  • Support technical development of resources reporting to them.
  • Coaches others/their team to improve performance and achieve their goals.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate engagement levels for their team of domain experts by providing an environment supportive of employee development and advancement while ensuring the availability of the proper mix of competencies and experience to support the business.
  • Influence and operate across a highly matrixed organization.
  • Values working in a team-oriented culture and building consensus with stakeholders before making key decisions.

Basic Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering/technical related field or equivalent.
  • Strong solution and application expertise, and related demonstrated sales experience.
  • Fluency with native language and strong command of English (written & spoken).
  • Strong business and financial acumen
