Sodexo is seeking a Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager for our new 13,000sf food manufacturing facility located in Billerica, MA.

This role is a proven hands-on Manager with demonstrated success in driving best-in-class food safety results through great leadership and development of everyone around them. We are looking for a positive leader to lead a new team from site pre-opening through full capacity operations, while simultaneously building an industry leading food safety program for food manufacturing operations. The role will evolve as we open more production facilities to be the steward of all aspects of our food production Food Safety & Quality Assurance programs, driving a culture of Quality at every level of our organization through training, coaching, audits and continuous improvement efforts.

Provides proactive onsite leadership in developing, implementing, and monitoring company quality and food safety strategy and related requirements, policies, procedures, and training. The position serves as the lead for lot tracking process, product recall execution, regulatory requirements, internal audits, GFSI, USDA, and FSMA. This includes creation and maintenance of Food Safety Plans, and compliance with Food Defense, FSVP, Sanitary Transport and any other current and future regulations. The Manager facilitates the document control program at the facility level including all programs, policies, and SOPs. Also responsible for tracking and communicating Food Safety KPIs, verifying activities associated with Preventive Controls. The manager will also establish a Food Safety Culture program to permeate the manufacturing facilities and be measurable and impactful. This position will work closely with the Site Manager and workgroup managers to ensure all food safety and quality assurance practices are being fully utilized throughout the facility.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements Quality and Food Safety policies and programs including FSMA, GMP, EMP, Sanitation, Non-conforming material, etc.
  • Create, report and monitor food safety KPIs. Participate on corporate Food Safety Team. Build awareness, training, and education programs to drive cultural and behavioral changes.
  • Develops and implements internal auditing programs to drive continuous improvement of Quality and Food Safety programs. Design and execute corporate audit program for SQF preparedness and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with Corporate HSE to establish Hygienic Design Principles with Facilities to establish Hygienic Zoning. Manage laboratory equipment master list and develop an equipment optimization plan.
  • Leads situational analysis, risk assessments and recommendations to senior management on potential food safety/public health issues. Conducts preparedness exercises for responding to recall and withdrawal scenarios. During actual events, leads FIRST and Recall teams to execute required activities as outlined in the Program.
  • Manages staff accountable for food safety plan Hazard Analysis and Process Preventive Controls, sanitation, and auditing. Measures compliance to issue tracking, closure, and quality of RCA and CAPA. Trains, coaches, and evaluates performance of direct reports.
  • Ensures facility cleaning and sanitation program, responsible for facilitating and analysis of testing and swabbing programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years industry food safety experience.
  • Must demonstrate strong problem solving and project management skills including root cause analysis, risk assessment and corrective/preventive action.
  • People leadership and ability to influence cross functionally are critical.
  • Experience building auditing programs and designing QMS systems.
  • Education and Experience: BS degree in Microbiology / Food Science / Chemistry or related area.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment including HACCP team experience. HACCP certification; SQF/BRC training, and Certification as Preventive Controls Qualified Individual.
  • Experience working with regulatory agency representatives such as USDA, FDA, SQF and BRC certification requirements is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of people management experience.

The Manager is responsible for developing, monitoring and maintaining Quality Assurance systems and programs to assure product integrity and compliance with SQF, GMP's, HAACP, company regulatory and customer standards. The Manager facilitates the document control program at the facility level including all programs, policies, and SOPs. Also responsible for tracking and communicating Food Safety KPIs, verifying activities associated with Preventive Controls. The manager will also establish a Food Safety Culture program to permeate the manufacturing facility. This position will work closely with the Site Manager and workgroup managers to ensure all food safety and quality assurance practices are being fully utilized throughout the facility.

Responsibilities include:

  • Daily oversight of Quality and Food Safety policies and programs including FSMA, GMP, EMP, sanitation for chilled environment, food manufacturing facility. Responsible to oversee and manage the safe production of fresh food concepts that meet company objectives and will monitor, report and fix raw material and processing deviations to standards. Investigates all food safety complaints and implements appropriate corrective actions.
  • Verify all HACCP documentation, daily pre- and post-operational food safety checklists are completed and facilitates the document control program at the facility level including all programs, policies, and SOPs. Ensure corrective actions are taken as necessary. Develops and implements onsite auditing programs to drive continuous improvement of Quality and Food Safety programs that will form the roadmap for future locations.
  • Leads situational analysis, risk assessments and recommendations to senior management on potential food safety/public health issues.
  • Ensures facility cleaning and sanitation program, responsible for facilitating and analysis of testing and swabbing programs.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor's degree in Microbiology / Food Science / Chemistry or related area or equivalent experience

Basic Management Experience - 5 years management experience

Basic Functional Experience - 5 years functional experience to include understanding of various cooking, prepping and packaging techniques
