By collaborating with other product development groups across Apple, push the industry boundaries of what batteries can do and improve the product experience for our customers across the world. Apple's Battery Data Systems team supports the Battery Qualification labs with software systems that collect and analyze test data. As part of that effort we maintain the IT infrastructure and large interconnected networks made up of thousands of devices for these labs. We are searching for an engineer to help scale, secure and maintain our lab networks, and administer the devices within. You will be working with a dynamic team utilizing your knowledge and skills to help ensure the success of Apple products.

Key Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of combined network and system administration experience, working in large interconnected environments
  • Experience with Linux/Windows/MacOS administration
  • Experience with LAN/WAN networking schemes such as DNS, DHCP, ACLs
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, Perl, etc.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation/monitoring such as Prometheus/Splunk/Ganglia
  • Knowledge of system security methodologies

Description

As a lab system administrator working with our qualification teams, you will be responsible for the maintenance, monitoring and administration of our lab networks and test equipment. This position requires focus on network and data security as well as supporting the needs of large-scale automation. Some of the day to day responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate with Apple security teams to isolate and control lab access
  • Coordinate with wider Apple networking teams on: - Troubleshooting switches - Upgrading/replacing switches and cabling - Designing/redesigning network topology as needed - Yearly inventory of servers/switches
  • Handle static IP address/DNS setup when new machines are added to the network
  • Troubleshoot equipment timeouts, communication issues between various source and destination devices
  • Manage hardware and software systems in centralized Apple database - Register and track new systems - Update incorrect registrations - Install OS X/Windows/Linux patches as needed - Repair systems when patches/reboots fail
  • Install anti-virus and other security software and schedule restarts with lab team
  • Work with external equipment vendors to help maintain lab systems - apply patches as needed - set up graceful shutdowns for power failures and planned outages
  • Set up remote management infrastructure for Windows systems
  • Standardize user accounts and filesharing across all systems
