The Lansing State Journal, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking an enterprise reporter to cover our bustling eastside communities and general assignment. This reporter must be highly motivated, with a proven ability to report compelling stories that resonate with audiences. The successful candidate will be comfortable providing context to breaking news or diving deep for bigger picture, revelatory stories. They should be adept using digital reporting tools, knowledgeable about accessing public records, and able to analyze data to strengthen reporting. Video skills are a must. Our reporters use social media and LSJ events to connect with audiences and engage with the community.


Heres what you need:

Bachelors degree in journalism or equivalent

At least one year of daily journalism experience.

Ability to write clear, compelling articles that engage our audience and to enhance your work with video and other digital storytelling tools as appropriate.

Understanding of social media and how to engage audience on digital platforms.

Ability to multi-task and excel under deadline pressure, using time efficiently in a 24-hour newsroom.

Skill at collaborating in a cross-functional environment and adapting in a rapidly changing industry.

This job includes some evening and weekend work.

The Lansing State Journal serves Michigans dynamic state capital market. Large employers include Michigan State University, two General Motors assembly plants, and large health care and insurance sectors. Entertainment includes Big Ten sports, MSUs Wharton Center and abundant city, county and state parks including two at Lake Lansing. The area is also within easy distance of Detroit, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids and Lake Michigans beautiful beaches.
