The Medical Education Campus is a high-tech, specialized campus dedicated to the education and preparation of nursing and allied health professionals with a strong commitment to workforce development and continuing education. The MEC meets the needs of college students interested in the health care profession and offers courses to high school students and current health care providers seeking to expand their knowledge. The Medical Education Campus serves more than 3,500 students annually in 10 health-related programs and features state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories, dental clinics, and a clinical practice site for nursing and allied health students. It offers students intimate class sizes and increased personal attention.

The Opportunity

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) invites applications for the position of Provost of its Medical Education Campus (MEC). The MEC seeks a capable leader who demonstrates a commitment to community engagement and building partnerships, excellence in teaching, and working in and fostering a diverse, multicultural, and international community.

The Role of the Provost

This position reports to the President of the College and is a member of the NOVA Administrative Council. The Provost serves as the chief administrative officer of the campus and coordinates all campus planning, operations, student success services, scheduling, community outreach, and budget preparation. The Provost is responsible for creating a positive and productive learning and working environment for the students; teaching, professional, and administrative faculty; and classified staff who call their campuses "home." The MEC Provost is called upon to bring the perspective of this unique campus to Administrative Council to inform decisions on policies, practices, and processes. The MEC Provost directly supervises campus staff including the Dean of Nursing, Dean of Health Sciences, Dean of Student Success, and the Director of Campus Operations.

The Position

The MEC Provost must demonstrate a commitment to equity in student success; a record of academic, executive, and administrative leadership; experience in building and sustaining strong academic programs in nursing and allied health professions; and a history of creating effective private-public partnerships that support medical education programs and students. The MEC Provost is responsible for furthering the strategic plans and goals of NOVA and VCCS; sustaining and growing MEC enrollment and student success measures (e.g., graduations, licensure pass rates); overseeing and monitoring specialized accreditation of programs to ensure continued good standing; participating in development and grant activities that support MEC students and programs; maintaining and improving facilities to support teaching and program excellence and relevance; and fostering a campus community that honors and supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Duties and Tasks:
• Coordinate and provide oversight for campus planning, operations, student success services, scheduling, community outreach, and budget preparation
• Supervise direct reports to ensure attainment of goals set forth by NOVA and VCCS strategic plans
• Sustain and grow MEC enrollment and student success measures (e.g., graduations, licensure pass rates)
• Oversee and monitor specialized accreditation of programs and clinical site agreements to ensure continued good standing
• Represent NOVA and the Medical Education Campus at key stakeholder meetings and public engagements
• Demonstrate sound fiscal management skills and data driven decision making with direct oversight for campus-based budgets and resources

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations at the institutional, state, federal, and accreditation-level that impact postsecondary academic institutions;
• Knowledge of the specific requirements of nursing and medical education programs;
• Knowledge of the current and changing needs of and for the health care workforce.

Skills:
• Skilled in forming effective partnerships and collaborations across diverse stakeholders;
• Skilled in interpersonal communication and conflict resolution;
• Skilled in management, budgeting, and operational procedures as well as able to lead the effective use of information technology for administrative and instructional purposes.

Abilities:
• Ability to synthesize complex information and present to varied audiences;
• Ability to analyze and make sound, informed, and well-considered recommendations on complex issues;
• Ability to plan and manage multiple budgets, including complex and significant capital funds;
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse workforce;
• Ability to maintain confidentiality on individual student and personnel matters;
• Ability to maintain and meet deadlines and deliver high quality work product when managing multiple projects;
• Ability to communicate effectively.

Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
• Five years of experience with progressive responsibilities as an administrator in a community college and/or university setting
• Experience in teaching or leading nursing or medical education programs
• Experience in developing, managing, and leveraging relationships with external partners (e.g., employers, donors)
• Demonstrated proficiency with the use of data, evidence, and analysis in decision-making
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college mission
• Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in student access and outcomes
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders to achieve consensus
