Description



Position Objective:

Provides direct care to injured employees in a culturally, developmentally, and ethically appropriate manner.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Supports employee health and related services that are provided to employees and new hire candidates in a professional and compassionate manner. 
  2. Assists with the new hire candidate health assessment on-boarding process. 
  3. Provides services in accordance with regulatory and accrediting guidelines and maintains employee health records and information in strict confidentiality. 
  4. Reviews/evaluates all laboratory and x-ray data and provides consultation to new hire candidates, volunteers, and employees regarding the results as needed.
  5. Provides educational material and counseling on current health issues, mandatory parts of the employee health program, bloodborne pathogen exposure and prophylaxis. 
  6. Manages the workers' compensation program and contributes to the development and implementation of employee health strategies, such as cost control, providing physical exams, care and treatment to injured employees. 
  7. Refers injured employees to medical specialists when appropriate.
  8. Promotes optimal recovery through education and counseling of injured employees on the treatment plan and educates employees on the benefits of a safe environment and prevention of injuries. 
  9. Keeps communication open with treating providers and workers compensation adjusters.
  10. Compiles/maintains data related to employee health, such as infectious diseases, employee injuries, trending and data analysis. 

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Successful completion of Nurse Practitioner program
  • Must possess a minimum of three years' nursing experience
  • At least one year of occupational health experience preferred

Required License/Certifications:

  • Licensed as a nurse practitioner by the Board of Medical Examiners of Maryland/Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification

Skills:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of applicable NIOSH, OSHA, JCAHO, State of Maryland, and Centers for Disease Control regulations as related to employee health issues normally acquired through previous employee health and clinical nursing experience.
  • Planning and organizational skills
  • Personal computer skills and comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Skills in effectively collaborating with a wide variety of interdisciplinary service providers

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands -

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
