Unit Description

Sodexo is looking for an Executive Chef 2 for Bayonne Medical Center.

Sodexo, leader in quality of life services has an immediate opening for an Executive Chef 2 at Bayonne Medical Center in Bayonne, NJ. Bayonne is a 300 bed acute care facility that is currently running Sodexo's Expressly for You patient room service meal delivery system. Experience in a union environment is preferred.

The ideal candidate is a manager that brings strong leadership skills, enthusiasm and confidence along with the ability to drive employee success to enhance the value of the Food and Nutrition team. Seeking a well rounded manager to support "Expressly For You" (EFY) Patient Meal/Room Service, Retail Dining and Culinary Solutions as well as Special projects. Candidate should be able to demonstrate the following;

The Ex Chef 2 will have experience and proven results in, the following areas:

Culinary Creativity: Follows culinary trends and innovates using local sustainable food sources.

Leadership: Ability to effectively manage and communicate with Culinary Staff, Key Personnel, Management Teams along with a passion and dedication to be "one of the best". Candidate must be highly engaged and hands-on in day to day operations.

Training: Must be able to articulate and demonstrate a wide ranging variety of cooking techniques and skills for the catering staff (plate presentation, quality, safety, proper culinary techniques).

Financial: Ability to manage and demonstrate proven results with food costs, labor and controllable expenses.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Emphasis on food presentation, quality, execution, menu design & implementation;
  • Focus on customer / patient service excellence
  • Demonstrated experience providing strong leadership, including supervision, direction and training, to a diverse team of employee
  • Focus on food and physical safety and sanitation
  • Experience managing food and labor cost controls to meet targets
  • Understanding of food allergens and special dietary needs

Qualified candidates must have a strong background in culinary operations, systems, process improvement, human resource management, organizational skills, and a strong knowledge in food safety and sanitation are just a few of the qualities that candidates should possess. Position will manage up to 20 employees.

This position will direct a 30+ team and will report to the General Manager. Solid customer service skills to support patient, visitor and staff interactions with daily facility rounding responsibilities for Press Ganey and overall hospital satisfaction scores.

Bayonne is a fully accredited, acute-care hospital and provides the people of Hudson County with comprehensive heart care, primary stroke center and offers specialty medicine for child and adult behavioral health, wound care, transitional care, radiation oncology, dialysis, as well as a sleep center and surgical specialties.

Position Summary

Provides culinary leadership within a medium sized unit including menu planning, program execution and staff management & training. Works directly with internal and external clients managing the catering process from beginning through execution.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree or equivalent experience
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience - 2 years work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
